Wednesday Recap

God is good all the time.  Today offered ample evidence of that.  At 9am there were few people coming and some supplies were dwindling.  We received two shipments from the Monrovia Church of Christ, with the second containing boxes with supplies for a family of four and stocked cleaning buckets from the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief based out of Nashville.  We were also visited by the chief of police for the City of Athens.  He stopped by to take a look at what we had going on.  Less than an hour later, there was a large truck full of supplies that had arrived from Lawrenceburg, TN courtesy of Dura Automotive Supplies.  They had been driving all over north Alabama looking for a place to take the supplies they had collected and were directed to Central by a police officer who they stopped to ask for advice.  Much thanks to the Athens Police Department.  More flyers were distributed in hard hit communities and the bus was available in Tanner to pick up anyone needing to come to the church building.  By the end of the day, people were calling and arriving shortly after for pick-up.  Like during previous days, every family wanted to be sure not to take more than they truly needed (and in some cases took less than they needed despite our best efforts) so that there would be items left of others.  The attitude of folks in this community should make us all proud to call it our home.  We served more people today than we did yesterday and expect to serve more people tomorrow than we did today.  In talking to some other distribution centers in the area, there is some thinking that Saturday will be the busiest yet as folks are getting back to more normal routines and are off work.  If you aren't doing anything Saturday, we encourage you to find a place to help out.

Before concluding this post, we must say a few words about our amazing volunteers.  Some folks are taking off work and others are coming on their lunch breaks.  Everyone is working very diligently and in harmony with each other.  As a result, people are having their needs met and God is being glorified because of it.  None of what we are doing would be possible without ALL of you who have contributed the way you have, whether by spreading the word, volunteering to distribute, or donating supplies and money.  THANK YOU!!!
