Tuesday Recap

Today was very busy  for us.  We want to first of all thank everyone who worked so diligently here at the building and around town to make sure that people who needed help could get it.  First let me recap a few things that took place;
  • We brewed coffee for folks coming to get supplies and also delivered it to utility workers in Tanner and East Limestone.  The deliveries were a big hit during the colder morning hours and we will do the same thing tomorrow.  We have also invited police officers and other emergency personnel to stop by between the hours of 9am-4pm for a coffee and snacks.  Please spread the word about this.
  • Word of our distribution center was spread by the major TV stations in Huntsville as well as all Cumulus radio stations.  WDRM make an announcement for us as well.  Fliers were distributed all over the county and the Red Cross came to visit twice, looking over our operation, asking what we needed, and promising to spread the word about what is available at our church building.  They referred one person to us this afternoon, and we expect that they will continue to do so as needs arise.  We calculate that the word got out today and that we will have more people tomorrow than we served today.
  • Two couples from Madison County drove to our building today to donate supplies.  They had found out about us over the internet and text messaging and just wanted to help.  One of those couples brought kitchen items (plates, utensils, spatulas, etc.) which we were able to give directly to a family we had just placed in a new home (their home was destroyed).  It was truly a situation in which the Lord simply provided what we needed at the moment.
  • A very nice lady came by on her way home from her grandmother's funeral in Florida.  She had found us online and saw that we were near interstate 65.  The family had planned on having a garage sale, but instead decided they wanted to donate their grandmothers belongings to storm victims.  Many of these items were also sent to the families placed in housing today.
  • As I mentioned, we placed two families in housing today, both in the same residence.  The house was in desperate need of cleaning and a group from Valley Church took care of that very quickly.  One of the rooms needed new paint and members from Central got that job done this afternoon.
So many people have contributed in so many ways...more than I can list.  Again, we are so incredibly thankful for those of you who have contributed in some way, not just today but since April 27.  Your hard work is making a huge difference in this community and God is being glorified as a result.
